Last time on The Ten…
We asked you to choose the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, along with the nine that followed. When we asked this same question about the men, there was agreement on our No. 1—Roger Federer.
But not this time, as our panelists’ top choice differed from our readers’ selection. Here’s how we saw the order, as was revealed on the November 18th episode of The Ten: Women. (You can watch the full, 44-minute episode on demand at TennisChannel.com.)
1. Serena Williams
2. Martina Navratilova
3. Steffi Graf
4. Chris Evert
5. Billie Jean King
6. Margaret Court
7. Monica Seles
8. Venus Williams
9. Justine Henin
10. Maria Sharapova
And here’s how you saw the order, according to our poll results from last week:
Well now. In this GOAT Vote, Steffi Graf edged Serena Williams—akin to a 12-10 victory in a third-set tiebreaker. Martina Navratilova, as you’ll see, did pretty well herself on this vote; she was No. 2 on our list. Either way, it’s an interesting interpretation of the game’s Top 3.
Our Nos. 4 through 7—Chris Evert, Billie Jean King, Margaret Court and Monica Seles—all lined up, along with the decision to place Maria Sharapova at No. 10. While The Ten had Venus Williams eighth and Justine Henin ninth, the readers swapped the Belgian with the American.
Don’t let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t matter.
This week, the vote is about the game’s most influential men and women—tennis trailblazers. For their actions on and off the court, these ten comprise The Ten. Which players do you think are most significant? Tell us your order in the poll below.
